The series is said to be an anthology series with new characters for each season
Narrative
The exploits of various guests and employees of a luxury resort over the course of a week… HBO has renewed the series for a second season even though it was intended as a one-season limited miniseries.
Presented on Jeremy Vine: Episode #4,175 (2021)
HBO already did this (to great success) with True Detective (2014). Although some of the first season was cringeworthy.
This second season is as masterful as anyone could hope for
The first episode starts off a little slow, but soon settles in and impresses again and again, winning me over as if I hadn’t had much experience. It feels like a revisiting of every thought I’ve ever had at the resort, many of which I’ve long forgotten.
A creator, a sort of anonymous genius
For that alone it’s a delight, but don’t worry, it goes way beyond flirting with operatic heights of drama and beauty, which is quite appropriate given its location in Sicily. Given the excellence of the performances and the impression of simplicity of the story, I’d say Mike White is the best choice for this series.
